Syrup is a family affair at Meurens!
It was in 1902 that great-grandfather Clément Meurens, the first of his name, left the family farm to become a professional syrup maker. He chose a strategic location and built his syrup factory in Aubel, across from the train station.
In 1937, his son Clément drew inspiration from the fruit jellies in vogue at the time and created the famous recipe for Pear Syrup from the Pays de Liège. But soon, the war and supply issues arose. It wasn’t until 1947 that he trademarked the renowned brand, so famous that its abbreviation became a generic name for fruit spreads: “SIROP DE LIÈGE“.
Martine Meurens, like her grandfather, experimented with new blends and developed new flavors. In 2011, she continued the family tradition on her own by reimagining the recipe in liquid form to adapt to evolving dietary habits.
Thanks to a unique and patented manufacturing and preservation process, Martine Meurens’ reimagined “SIROP DE LIÈGE” preserves natural fruity notes and comes in various flavors, with the authentic taste of fruit.
